Khandker Anwarul Islam joined Bridges Division, Ministry of Communication as Secretary in-charge on 13 November 2011. He is also the ex-officio Executive Director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority. Prior to this posting he worked in the Cabinet Division as Additional Secretary.
Khandker Anwarul Islam joined Civil Service in 1983 and worked in various capacities both at field and central level. He worked as Upazila Magistrate, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Additional Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner in-charge in the field administration. He also served as Director in National Sports Council, as Senior Assistant Secretary and Deputy Secretary in Parliament Secretariat, as Director in the Department of Relief and Rehabilitation and as Secretary in National Sports Council. He also discharged his duties as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Division.
He worked in various Development Projects funded by the World Bank, UNFPA, ADB, CIDA, DGIS, UNDP and other development partners as DD, DPD, Project Director and National Project Director. He travelled USA, UK, Australia, Sweden, Norway, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Kenya on official visits.
Khandker Anwarul Islam earned his BSS (Hons) and MSS in Social Welfare from University of Dhaka. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Development Planning. He successfully completed a number of foreign training in Project Management, HRD Skills for Functional Managers, Private Sector Seed Management etc. Khandker Anwarul Islam is married to Ms. Kamrun Nahar, DG, Film Archives, Ministry of Information. He is blessed with two sons.
